Who Can Help You Address Challenges and Concerns?

You are not by yourself on the 4-H playing field. When you face coaching problems, challenges and concerns seek help from your local County Extension 4-H Educator(s). Do not let issues get out of control before seeking guidance and assistance. We encourage you to the extent possible, to resolve problems and concerns at the problem's level. However when this is not possible, you and your Extension Educators should follow these suggested procedures for Addressing 4-H Challenges and Concerns.

What challenges & concerns may you face?
  • Club Disbands or Splits - The most common challenges with a club disbanding or splitting revolve around the 4-H Club Name, Funds, Materials and Property. Who gets to keep the club name? How are funds distributed? Learn how to deal with these issues calmly and to mutually benefit all 4-H club members.
  • Custody Related Issues and 4-H Membership - Today's blended and extended families require the 4-H organization to identify the parent/guardian that enrolls his/her child in the 4-H program as the custodial parent. Custodial issues may require you to utilize Restricted Release forms. When there is a dispute regarding disbursement of premium checks, permission to participate in programs and others, the 4-H organization recognizes the custodial parent/guardian as the point of contact.
  • Leasing of 4-H Projects - The Ohio 4-H Horse Program guidelines allow 4-H members to lease their 4-H project horse. Some Ohio 4-H counties may allow youth to lease other animals for 4-H projects excluding those project animals that require specific possession and ownership by the exhibitor according to the Ohio Livestock Tampering Rules or specific County or Ohio State Fair ownership requirements.
